Probably a resource in which majority of the students have used. The academic advisors
consist of a job in which they oversee many students education and pathway to graduation.
According to Silvia Grover however, she states how there is often a misconstrued thought or
idea of what the academic advisors are there to do. She states how often students assume
that the academic advisors will build their schedules for them. However, this is not what they
are there for. Advisors will help assist in guiding students to a proper scheduling but it is up to
the student to be responsible for their class schedule. What the advisors specialize in is the
preparation and recognition of what needs to be done in order to graduate. Overall, the
advisors truly care to assist in the students’ future success and graduation.Mrs. Grover enjoys
helping students to reach their goals and believes it is important to share their knowledge with
those who seek her wisdom. However, according to “Intrusive advising of freshmen in
academic difficulty”, the author states how college students do not utilize the skills of academic
advisors. (Earl, 1988) I am aware of the difficulties in which students feel as if there is little help
from the CSUSM advisors, which is why I advise students to keep their own track of their
degree planner and do not expect the advisors to answer or find a solution to all of your
problems. (Chickering & Gamson, 1987)
